The 2017/18 season just started but some managers have already come under fire with a string of poor performances by their respective sides.
The English Premier League is in full swing and with three games played, some managers have come under heavy criticism with the kind of start their teams have made.
So who are most likely to get the boot then?
Frank de Boer – Crystal Palace
The Dutchman only just took the reins at Selhurst Park but his first game was a disaster, his side was well beaten by newly promoted Huddersfield Town, losing Wilfried Zaha – his most creative asset in the process. And with further losses to Liverpool and Swansea, with his only win coming in the Carabao Cup win over Ipswich – even that was a struggle.
And with these poor strings of results, the Eagles’ hierarchy might already be looking for replacements for de Boer. The international break just came at the perfect time for the gaffer, but if things don’t change soon, he might just be the first manager to be shown the door this season.
Slaven Billic – West Ham United
This was actually my first pick before the season started, and he has absolutely no excuse for the abysmal start to the season the Hammers have had.
An opening day thrashing by Manchester United – a game where they had no innovation and were simply playing dead, then some life against Southampton before an abject performance in the 3-0 loss to Newcastle. There is absolutely no excuse for the kind of performances the team has been displaying with the quality of players on show and now reports in England say he has been given a four game ultimatum to turn his sinking ship around at the London Stadium. Do i think he will? Absolutely not!
Arsene Wenger – Arsenal
If there was ever a time to ease the Frenchman out the door, its now. This team under Wenger looks like amateurs, there is no passion, no bite, they lack leadership and steel, and the formation he chose to play doesn’t suit the team because they are square pegs trying to fit in round holes.
Arsene has lost everything – his dressing room, his players, his tactics are outdated and rigid, even his ability to sign French players evidenced by the Lemar debacle, if this was a board who cared anything about winning, then Wenger should be out of the Emirates stadium dugout, but Stan Kroenke chooses profit over trophies and Wenger is just perfect for that, so this is wishful thinking.
Honourable Mention:
Rafa Benitez – Newcastle
This isn’t really about bad performances, it’s more about a breakdown in working relationships between the gaffer and the owner. Benitez was promised the cash influx from gaining promotion to sign new players over the summer but with the window now closed, the Spaniard is left frustrated by the actions of the Toon Army owner and might just head to the door because of this lack of ambition.
