The Red Devils finished sixth but will be part of Europe’s elite club completion by virtue of their Europa League triumph, but can they challenge for the title this season?
Manchester United are the undisputed kings of English football both in footballing terms and commerce but they have been wobbling since Sir Alex Ferguson retired even with the astronomical amounts spent on transfer fees.
But things are appearing to turn under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho. The Special One is no stranger to English football after two trophy laden spells with Chelsea, on the surface he looks to have steadied the ship, but after signing Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof for a combined €119m (undisclosed fee for Matic), his sights should be set on nothing but the league title.
The old Trafford higher ups have provided the manager all he has asked for, now his team has to repaying the investments on the field of play and a first league title since 2013 would be top on the agenda.
United is a team with a proud history, record 20 league titles and haven spent €304m in two summers, they cannot afford to finish anywhere outside the top two. Its left to be seen if the Blues won the striker battle or United dodged a bullet on that front, but they cannot afford all the draws that derailed their campaign last term and the Belgian was brought in to supply the goals that was lacking.
