Solving the problem of semantic dyslexia

Semantic dyslexia is a type of deviation when a child, reading correctly and without errors, does not understand the meaning of the text read at all. If you ask him to answer questions about the content of the text or retell what he has read, he will not be able to fulfill your request, since the kid in this situation used the method of mechanical reading. All this time he was just pronouncing words and sounds, occupying his brain with the process of merging sounds into syllables. A student with semantic dyslexia can present real subjects quite well. From the sentence he has read, he can only imagine objects that can be touched or seen with the help of vision, for example, a table, a car, a sea, a mountain, and so on. Prepositions are a particular problem for such children. The child practically does not define this part of speech in the sentence. Because of this, when reading the sentence, the baby perceives a set of unrelated images that he presented, but could not link into a single picture.
The following exercises will help to get rid of this problem.
Exercise "Extra letters". In any text that is small in volume, add one or two extra letters to each word and ask the child to read and cross out the letters that are unnecessary, in his opinion. The duration of this exercise is no more than 5-7 minutes a day.
Exercise "Explain the meaning". Make a complex sentence and start analyzing it together with your child. Ask him questions about what certain words mean, paying special attention to the explanation of the meaning and function of prepositions and conjunctions. With such an analysis, it is advisable to resort to a physical display of the actions that occur in the sentence you have compiled. For a kid, it's easier to understand the meaning of verbs. In simple words, using facial expressions, gestures, drawings, explain to children the meaning of the text. In one exercise, analyze no more than two sentences.
The next exercise is "Reading under the metronome". On the global Internet, you can download the Metronome program and use it in the absence of this device. Choose a simple text, set the speed on the metronome to about 40-50 beats and ask the child not just to read the text, but also to count the number of beats of the metronome. Do not worry if at first the kid does not cope with the task and will make mistakes when counting. But after a week or two of active training, the result will improve.
These exercises greatly influence the development of the baby, help him to read the very essence of the text and understand the simple connections in the sentence and the text. https://inscribemedia.co.uk/
