The English Premier League: Team By Team Analysis Of The 2017/18 Summer Transfers – Part 1: Chelsea To Arsenal

We take a look at the business done by each Premier League team this summer from defending champions, Chelsea to new boys Huddersfield Town.

Á. Morata (Real Madrid-€62M), T. Bakayoko (Monaco €40M), D. Drinkwater (Leicester City €37.9M), A. Rüdiger (AS Roma €35M), D. Zappacosta (Torino FC €28M), W. Caballero (Manchester City Free transfer)

N. Matic (Man Utd €44.7M), N. Aké, A.Begovic (Bournemouth €22.8M, €11.5M), J. Cuadrado (Juventus €20M), B. Traoré (Olympique Lyon €10m), C. Atsu (Newcastle €7.5m), N. Chalobah (Watford €6.3m). Free transfers – D. Solanke (Chelsea), J. Terry (Aston Villa), L. Rémy (UD Las Palmas). Loan – K. Zouma (Stoke City), R. Loftus-Cheek (Crystal Palace), T. Abraham (Swansea City), O. Aina, M. Hector (Hull City), D. Pantic (Partizan), T. Kane (FC Groningen) Loan, L. Baker (Middlesbrough), C. Cuevas (FC Twente), J. Blackman (Sheffield United), M. Pasalic (Spartak Moscow), J. Boga (Birmingham City), M. Miazga (Vitesse), K. Omeruo (Kasimpasa), Nathan (SC Amiens), T. Kalas (Fulham)

Club record signing Morata arrived from Real Madrid as did a few other signings but Manager Antonio Conte was still left unimpressed by transfer activity up until the deadline day signings of Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta. Chelsea will be hoping the loss of Matic to rivals Man United won’t come back to haunt them. Club legend John Terry finally called time on his illustrious Chelsea career joining Aston Villa and the less said about the hoard of players shipped out on loan the better.

D. Sánchez (AFC Ajax €40M), S. Aurier (Paris SG €25M), F. Llorente (Swansea €15.1M) J. Foyth (Estudiantes €9M), P. Gazzaniga (Southampton FC Undisclosed)

K. Walker (Man City €51M), K. Wimmer (Stoke City €19.4M), N. Bentaleb (Schalke 04 €19M), C. N’Jie Olympique Marseille €7M), F. Fazio (AS Roma €3.2M), Loans – C. Carter-Vickers (Sheffield Utd), J. Onomah (Aston Villa).

Bentaleb, N’jie and Fazio were sold after loan spells away from the club and thus may not be missed much but after Walker’s ground-breaking €51M move to Man City and Wimmer’s departure to Stoke Spurs have done well in a recruiting like for like replacement in Aurier and in Wimmer’s case probably a better option, as well as securing a backup striker that was visibly missed last season especially as they once again have 4 tournaments to compete in.

B. Mendy, B. Silva (AS Monaco €57.5M, €50M), K. Walker (Tottenham €51M), Ederson (Benfica €40M), Danilo (Real Madrid €30M) Douglas Luiz (Vasco da Gama €12M), O. Kayode (Austria Vienna €3.80M)

K. Iheanacho (Leicester €27.7M), E. Ünal (Villarreal €14M), W. Bony (Swansea €13M), A. Mooy (Huddersfield €9.1M), Nolito (Sevilla €9M), Fernando (Galatasaray €5.25M), O. Ntcham (Celtic €5M), A. Kolarov (AS Roma €5M), S. Nasri (Antalyaspor €3M), R. Sobrino (Alavés €2M), B. Zuculini (Hellas Verona Undisclosed). Free Transfers – W. Caballero (Chelsea), G. Clichy (Basaksehir), P. Zabaleta (West Ham), J. Navas (Sevilla) B. Sagna (Unattached).

Loans – J. Hart (West Ham), J. Denayer (Galatasaray) P. Marí (NAC Breda), P. Maffeo, Douglas Luiz, O. Kayode, M. Moreno, A. García (Girona), A. Gunn (Norwich), A. Cáceres (Al-Wasl), P. Roberts (Celtic), N. Freire (PEC Zwolle).

Guardiola got rid of a number of his defenders and sought to replace them and thus finds himself with the 2 most expensive full backs in football history, as well as the most expensive goalkeeper ever. Will the splurge ensure a tighter back-line? Only time will tell.

M. Salah (AS Roma €42M), A. Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal €38M), A. Robertson (Hull City €9M), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea Free transfer)

M. Sakho (Crystal Palace €28.2M), Lucas (Lazio €5.7M), K. Stewart (Hull City €4.5M), A. Wisdom (Derby County €2.3M). Loans – D. Origi (Wolfsburg) S. Ojo (Fulham) C. Randall (Hearts).

The addition of Salah to their already terrifying business would no doubt be the stand out transfer, but they also brought in ex Arsenal winger cum CM Oxlade-chamberlain to add to the depth of the squad and plugged the gaping hole a left back with Andy Robertson.

A. Lacazette (Olympique Lyon €53M), S. Kolasinac (Schalke 04 Free transfer)

A. Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool €38M), W. Szczesny (Juventus €12.2M), Gabriel (Valencia €11M), K. Gibbs (West Brom €7.5M), Y. Sanogo (Toulouse Free transfer), Loans – L. Pérez (Deportivo La Coruña) Emiliano Martínez (Getafe), J. Campbell (Real Betis), C.Jenkinson (Birmingham).

Arsenal’s transfer window left much desired. After the signings of Lacazette and Kolasinac, they seemed destined to add more players to the team but failed in bids for their only real target Thomas Lemar while losing The Ox in the process. They managed to keep hold of wantaway Alexis but just how well that will serve hem remains to be seen.
